Heartening, in these straitened times, to see the legal sector responding with a surge in lawyers volunteering their services pro bono. Echoing the sentiment in this article though - voluntary work must not come to be relied upon. Access to justice, which has suffered set back upon set back under the last two governments, should not be preserve of the wealthy. It must be legislated for at national level to reinstate much wider means testing and, where appropriate, subsidy.
